Error codes for both front and top-loader Maytag washers

SUD OR SD (can also appear as 5UD or 5D)

This error code indicates there are too many soap suds in your washer.

When your Maytag washer detects there is an excess of soap suds, it will display a SUD or SD error code. If you notice this immediately, you should wait a few minutes as your washer can sometimes fix this issue on its own. If it is still displayed after ten minutes, you will need to step in and fix it yourself.

You should check that you are using the correct washing powder for your machine type and using high-efficiency (HE) detergent if your washer requires it. You can also check in the detergent compartment if there is a buildup. If there is, it will need to be manually cleaned out.

DET or DET

Your washer should only take around eight minutes to drain. If it is taking longer than the expected time, your washer will display this error code to alert you.
