With 2018 quickly coming to an end, it’s now time to start planning for a great 2019, starting with January. If you are looking for some fun things to do in Los Angeles in the coming month, consider these four great events.

Free Admission to The Autry

When: January 1 and 8, 2019; 10 am- 4 pmWhere: The Autry Museum in Griffith ParkNormally, admission to the Autry is $14 for adults, $10 for students with a current ID and seniors (60+), and $6 for children 3-12. Yet, January is a great month to visit if you want to get in free. Not only are they offering their typical free entry on the second Tuesday of the month, but The Autry is also open and free on New Year’s Day. If you are a Bank of America cardholder, you can also enjoy free individual admission for the first full weekend of the month, which happens to be January 5-6.If you’ve never visited The Autry, there are several great exhibits that are only at the museum temporarily, which you’ll want to see before they’re gone. For example, Investigating Griffith Park opened in mid-November, and through the input of guests, the exhibit will continue to transform to tell some of the great stories about Griffith Park. If you are a fan of unique art pieces, you’ll want to stop by the Rick Bartow: Things You Can Know But Cannot Explain exhibit during your New Year’s Day visit or during the Bank of America cardholder free days since the exhibit only runs through January 6th. Out of the Ashes: Snapshots of the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake runs through June 9, 2019. It shares photographs taken in the days after this destructive earthquake. There are several other temporary exhibits at the museum as well. While at The Autry, be sure to stop by some of the ongoing exhibits. The California Road Trip room is a fun way to explore California without even having to go outside. You can feel like you’re staring at the starry skies of Joshua Tree National Forest, summiting the jagged faces of Mt. Whitney, exploring Death Valley, and enjoying some great ocean views all within a few minutes, and you don’t even have to experience the extreme temperature changes. You can also enjoy several exhibits honoring the historic American West in artwork, videos, and historic memorabilia.Of course, you might not be able to see them all in one day, but with multiple opportunities to visit the museum for free, you can come back later and enjoy some of the exhibits you weren’t able to fully enjoy on your previous visit.

At the 2018 event, there were 250,000 people, and the 2019 edition is expected to draw an even bigger crowd. Because a large crowd is expected, guests are encouraged to avoid driving to the event. You’ll have to create your own itinerary.Even though the event is free, you will likely want to bring at least a little money. Several restaurants will be offering special menus for the event, and there will be food trucks and vendors throughout the event area.
