To: Survey, Paradise Appliance Service Service Comments: Raymond Jackson’s service on KitchenAid Refrigerator; Model: KSCS23FTMS01; SERIAL: SU2626156 Raymond Jackson helped us considerably. KitchenAid side by side refrigerator has not worked correctly since it was new, several years ago. After having been serviced (by a different company) while still under warrantee, it has been worse. The door sealing and closing mechanisms have not worked correctly since new. Raymond Jackson, a service agent from “Paradise Appliance Service” came to our house on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 and offered the long-awaited analysis of the problem that our side by side refrigerator has been exhibiting while it was under warrantee (years ago). He concluded that the wrong door was replaced in our refrigerator side, and the door was replaced incorrectly. It does not close correctly, and the freezer side door is a problem, as well. • We contacted KitchenAid about 6 months after purchase; the refrigerator was still under warranty at that time. They referred us to an independent contractor service company, Active Appliance, as their KitchenAid technical support. We showed them that the door was not sealing properly, and we were hearing a consistent “whine” from the fact that air was escaping from inside the refrigerator side of the unit. After multiple visits and replacing 4 varied parts, it made no difference. Then, the service agent informed us that we needed a new door for the refrigerator. • Raymond Jackson helped us to learn that an incorrect door was installed, and it was installed improperly; it has never worked correctly. Air has continued to escape slowly from the unit. The door does not close by itself. Raymond has informed us that a bottom hinge and spring mechanism inside the door is the process by which the door is to close by itself. The lower hinge and spring of the door are damaged. If we do not remember to close the door completely against the frame, the unit becomes warmer inside, oftentimes 10-15 degrees before we “catch” the problem and push the door against the frame. • Upon discussion with Raymond and measuring the door, we have discovered that the replaced door is the wrong size for our refrigerator. The door is too long and too thick for the refrigerator that we purchased. The replaced door clearly protrudes next to the refrigerator freezer door. • AND, upon opening and closing the refrigerator’s freezer door, the refrigerator side door OPENS by ITSELF and remains open! • During Raymond’s visit, we learned that the bottom door hinge and spring components that we need are internal portions of the complete door. If we were to choose to fix the problem, it is required for us to purchase the complete door ($1400+!). And, we have learned that the door is NO LONGER AVAILABLE. We are concluding that KitchenAid unit was a problem upon delivery to us (possibly it was bad from KitchenAid OR possibly the sales or delivery company dropped it and bent the frame or the door… who knows?). Took 3 rounds of scheduling in order for someone to show up. Felt as though my time was not valued when the first two appointments were cancelled and I had to take time away from work. The technician who came out on the 3rd attempt was nice and knowledgeable but at the end of the day spent 15 minutes here and advised us to not invest in fixing the refrigerator but rather put that money towards a new refrigerator. I understand we did end up having a technician come out to look into our issue however I do not feel we should have been charged $110 given the experience.
