Modern microwaves typically use 600 to 1,200 watts of power, drawing around 10 to 15 amps. Household circuits are usually rated for 15 or 20 amps, which leaves little room for other appliances. If your microwave shares a circuit with high-wattage devices like a refrigerator, toaster, or coffee maker, the combined load can easily exceed the circuit’s capacity, causing the breaker to trip as it’s designed to do.
