Summertime has officially kicked off and the infectious spirit is in the air! The exciting city of Los Angeles is chocked full of fun activities for kids and adults of all ages. Catch an outdoor movie screening, head to the beach, venture to a new festival, and be sure to check out all the July 4th festivities! There’s so much waiting for you to explore…

Moonlight Movies on the Beach

June, July & August – Long Beach

Come down to the Long Beach to enjoy classic films such as The Goonies, Top Gun, The Little Mermaid, Jaws, and more favorites! The best part is that it’s completely free! There’s plenty of parking, a snack shop, food trucks, kettle corn, and VIP seating available. All shows begin at dusk, so grab your friends and head down to Moonlight Movies on the Beach for a relaxing evening under the stars.

July 4th Firework Festivals

July 4 – Various locations

Spend 4th of July at any one of these exciting all day fun-filled family festivals! Enjoy entertainment, rides, food trucks, face paintings, fireworks and more. Plus, many of them are absolutely free!

Old Fort MacArthur Days

July 7-8 – San Pedro

Happening at the Fort MacArthur Museum, you can have the opportunity to watch over 600 costumed actors recreate battles and military equipment from the old days dating back to the Renaissance, Civil War, World War II, Roman Legions, and the Vietnam War. The Old Fort MacArthur Days attracts history buffs and youngsters alike! It may even inspire you to join in on the fun next year.

Mac & Cheese Beer Festival

July 7, 2018 (2 p.m.) – Globe Theatre, Downtown LA

You’re not going to want to miss this! The Los Angeles Mac & Cheese Beerfest ticket ($35) includes samples of 60 tasty craft beers, live bands, killer DJ’s, and more than a dozen of the city’s top chefs and restaurants all selling their famous mac and cheese creations for small plates of $3-$5 each. Yum!

Salsa Festival

July 7-8, 12 p.m – 8 p.m. – Pershing Square, Downtown LA

For just $5 a ticket, you can experience a fun cultural event filled with delicious salsas, local food vendors, live music, dancing, and a beer/margarita bar. Spice up your boring weekend with an afternoon well spent at the Salsa Festival! It’s great fun for the entire family.

Outfest LA LGBTQ Film Festival

July 12-22 – Hollywood

Don’t miss 11 days of world-class films, panels, and parties! The Outfest LA LGBTQ Film Festival will screen more than 150 feature and short films (both locally and internationally) to an audience of over 40,000 people. As the oldest film festival in Los Angeles, it’s considered the preeminent LGBTQ film festival in the whole world.

Greek Festival

July 13-15 – Redondo Beach

Located at St. Katherine’s Greek Church, the South Bay Greek Festival will have plenty of authentic Greek food, music, games, and dancing!

Orange County Fair

July 13-August 12 – Costa Mesa

Who doesn’t love a good summer fair? Grab your family and friends and head on down! The OC Fairoffers farm exhibits, petting zoos, pig races, carnival rides, sports arena, wine tasting, fried foods, rodeo, big-name music concerts and lots more fun. (It’s closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.)

Union Station Train Festival

July 14 – Downtown

The 2nd annual Union Station Summer Train Festival is back in full swing this year and will feature a rare collection of beautifully restored vintage trains, model trains, and classic cars from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. It’s a great family-friendly event that’s (mostly) free. Kids’ zone and food trucks will also be available!

Dine L.A. Restaurant Week

July 13-27 – Multiple Locations

Calling all foodies! Twice a year (July & January), over 300 restaurants participate in a restaurant week called Dine L.A. Enjoy a special price on a 2-course lunch or 3-course dinner. You won’t need any special tickets, but restaurants fill up quickly so it’s smart to make reservations ahead of time at your favorite locations.

Sunday Funday LA Food Festival

July 15, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

Sip a mimosa alongside your best friends on the best day of the week, all while shopping and supporting local good trucks, chefs, and crafters! You can also get bendy with some yoga, enjoy live music, and complimentary swag and giveaways! It’s a free event, however, tickets are required for entry.

Delicious Little Tokyo

July 20-21 – Downtown

This awesome Japanese festival certainly has a lot to offer! Tickets include 16 tastings, demonstrations, and workshops. Some cool examples of what you’ll find at Delicious Little Tokyoinclude sake tasting, flower arranging, cocktail mixing, and even sushi making! Where else do you have the chance to make your own sushi?

Van’s U.S. Open of Surfing

July 28-August 5 – Huntington Beach Pier

All of the top surfers, skateboarders, and BMX riders will be competing at the U.S. Open of Surfing. Don’t miss out on all the action, it’s fun for all ages! A lifestyle festival and movie nights will also be happening south of Huntington Beach Pier.

Love Long Beach Celebration

July 28-29 – Long Beach

Music, arts, crafts, food, yoga, vendors, alcohol and magic all create this incredible annual 2-day festival. It’s family friendly and fun for everyone! Children under 16 are free, and adult tickets can be purchased at the door. The Love Long Beach Celebration includes two stages of performers and DJ dance music to party all weekend!

California Watermelon Festival

July 28 – Hansen Dam Park

All you can eat watermelon, doesn’t that sound like a dream come true? Well, it can be a reality at the California Watermelon Festival! 2 days and 43,000 pounds of juicy watermelon. Let that sink in. A day ticket includes all you can eat watermelon, carving and cooking demonstrations, watermelon arena games (including melon bungee pull, watermelon slinging, and melon skiing), King and Queen comedy sketch, BMX Pro stunt bike show, awesome bands, and fun for the kids (including, pony rides, petting zoos, children’s theatre, magic shows, bubble parties, balloons, games and crafts!). You simply have to see it all for yourself!

Midsummer Scream Halloween Fest

July 28-29 – Long Beach

For all the diehard Halloween fans out there, this event is screaming your name. Horrors, gore, and more are included along with specialty vendors, live entertainment, immersive experiences, roaming monsters, and more than a dozen haunted attractions! Step into the darkness and celebrate Halloween all year long at Midsummer Scream.
